Who are we?
Relationships Australia WA and the Women’s Legal Service WA are working together to deliver Djinda Service.
We provide support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women in the Perth metropolitan area who have experienced family violence and/or sexual assault. We are Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal women, mothers and sisters who care about the future of Aboriginal communities. We have personal and professional experience and understanding of family violence.
Djinda is a Noongar word meaning ‘star’. The stars represent us as women who guide our families, shine brightly, survive against the odds and are strong in our determination to keep our families safe.
How can we help?
In addition to face-to-face meetings and support to attend appointments, we provide advocacy, referrals and practical support including:
- Counselling
- Help with crisis accommodation, Centrelink and child protection
We provide legal advice and some representation in the following areas:
- Family violence restraining orders
- Current child protection matters
- Victims’ compensation where it relates to family violence
- Family law (parenting and divorce only)
We also provide community education and information to raise awareness and as a way of preventing family violence.
